Sheffield Hallam UniversityVisit to the Carmelite Community at Kirk Edge.
On Monday 18th October a group of students went to visit the Carmelites at Kirk Edge. This community is the only house of contemlative sisters in the diocese.
We arrived in time for Vespers at 4.50pm. The beautiful chapel is L shaped, and we were showen into the public side while the Sisters remained in their side of the chapel which is inside their enclosure.
After Vespers we were shown into the parlour where Sr Mary of the Resurrection came to talk to us about their life and prayer. We had lots of questions and the conversation flowed easily. We were impressed by the simple lifestyle and the fidelity to prayer which was so evident.
After our meeting with Sr Mary we were shown into another room for tea and biscuits. We were very inpsired by the radical lifestyle which these sisters live, and are very grateful for their continued prayer for the needs of the church and the world.
